Portland Pirates Three Stars Scholarship
The Portland Pirates and the NextGen College Investing Plan® are proud to extend their scholarship program into another season. Again during the 2014-15 school year, local students are encouraged to put their writing or artistic skills on display for the ultimate prize of a $1,000 college scholarship! The Portland Pirates will award a $1,000 Three Stars Scholarship to a deserving student in each of three grade levels: K-5, 6-8, and 9-12. Students will be asked to submit an essay on a topic selected by the Pirates (for grades 6-12) or submit a picture (for grades K-5). Winners are selected prior to the Portland Pirates game on Sunday, April 12th and awarded the scholarship at the game. The Three Stars Scholarship opportunity is open to all students, grades K-12, in the state of Maine. The Pirates and the NextGen College Investing Plan are proud to work together to help provide resources for higher education to benefit the future of the state of Maine.
How to submit your entry:
Grades K-5: Draw a picture that represents your healthy lifestyle. For example, it can be a picture of a healthy meal you like to eat, or of a healthy activity you like to do outside.
Grades 6-8: In 500 words or less, please describe what teamwork means to you and a time you were part of a team.
Grades 9-12: In 500 words or less, please describe the qualities of a good leader and a time you exemplified leadership.
All submissions should include contact information for the applicant including name of student and parent or legal guardian, grade, address, and phone number, and be mailed to or dropped off at the following address by Sunday, April 5, 2015:

The NextGen College Investing Plan® is Maine’s Section 529 Plan. A Section 529 Plan is an investment plan offered by a state to help families invest for higher-education costs. NextGen is administered by the Finance Authority of Maine (FAME). Matching grants are available to eligible accounts.
