Mannheim, Germany - Portland Pirates forward Philip Gogulla scored the lone goal of the game as German blanked Switzerland 1-0 to advance to the Semifinals of the IIHF World Hockey Championships.

The goal, scored midway through the second period, was Gogulla's first of the tournament. Fellow Pirates forward and German teammate Felix Schutz was held pointless in the game.

Germany will now face Russia in one semifinal on Saturday. The Czech Republic and Sweden meet in the other. The gold and bronze medal games will be played on Sunday.
