Pirates Featured In Portland Press Herald for Community Outreach

Portland, Maine - The Portland Pirates were the first organization to offer prizes as part of the “Catch Kids Doing Good” Program. The program is spear headed by Portland ’s Public Health Division and the Portland Police Department. The Portland Pirates donated 5,000 tickets for youths in the area to earn free tickets to hockey games and will be able to bring an adult guest for only $9.

“It was an easy “Yes” for the Pirates” said Zachary Davis, Director of Ticket Sales. “This program will work because it gives children positive goals to work toward instead of focusing on the negative consequences to avoid, which is directly with the objectives of (our) organization.”

The goal of the program is to encourage good behavior by the city’s youth’s and build relationships between young people and authority figures. The program is being organized through One Maine, One Portland, a coalition that works to create a positive, substance-free environment.

For more information on the program contact the Portland ’s Public Health Division at 207-756-8116.
