The Portland Pirates play their first back to back games at home this season as they face the Providence Bruins on Saturday night. Puck drops at 7 PM from the Cumberland County Civic Center for the second of 10 meetings between the two clubs, with the P-Bruins holding a 1-0 advantage on the year.
The Pirates are coming off a 4-3 victory last night over the Worcester Sharks. Alexandre Bolduc scored his team leading 12th goal, David Rundblad scored in his third straight game, and both Chris Conner and Chris Brown chipped in goals for the Pirates, who exacted revenge for a fight filled contest last weekend in Worcester that saw the Sharks come away with a 5-1 victory. Friday night’s contest was relatively tame, with only two fights taking place between the two. Chad Johnson had 27 saves on 30 shots in the Portland victory.
Providence took on the Connecticut Whale at home Friday, winning by a 4-2 margin. The Bruins trailed 2-1 with 8 minutes to go in the second period, but tallied three consecutive goals to come out on top. Jamie Tardif had 2 of the Bruins’ goals, and goaltender Niklas Svedberg stopped 24 of 26 shots for the win.
The Bruins were victorious in the last game they played at the Civic Center, defeating the Pirates 2-1. Providence goaltender Svedberg was superb, stopping 36 of the 37 shots he faced for the victory. Phil Lane scored the lone Portland goal, his first of the year, in the loss.
