Saco, Maine – Phoenix Coyotes Assistant General Manager and Portland Pirates General Manager Brad Treliving announced today that the Portland Pirates have signed defensemen Joel Hanley and Jordon Southorn to professional tryout contracts (PTO).
Hanley, a 6’1, 195lbs. native of Keswick, Ontario, has spent the last four seasons with UMass Amherst. Hanley appeared in 34 games with UMass this season, scoring 2 goals and adding 14 assists. In 131 career games with the Minutemen, Hanley tallied 17 goals and 58 assists. This is the 22 year old’s first professional contract.
The 6’3, 210 lbs Southorn has spent the majority of the season with the Ft. Wayne Komets of the ECHL. A native of Montreal, Quebec, Southorn has skated in 41 games with the Komets this season, scoring 10 goals and adding 16 assists.
The Pirates travel to St. John’s to take on the IceCaps tonight at 6 PM EDT for the first game of a three game series. Tonight’s game can be heard on the Pirates flagship stations WPEI 95.5/95.9 FM as well as WEZR FM 105.5/AM 1240 in the Lewiston/Auburn area and WTME AM 780/1450 in Oxford County.
