The Portland Pirates look to recover from a disappointing loss in Binghamton when they travel to Wilkes-Barre to face the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins Saturday night at the Mohegan Sun Arena at Casey Plaza. Puck drop is at 7:05 pm for the second matchup between these two teams this season.
The Pirates suffered a disappointing defeat at the hands of the Binghamton Senators last night, falling by a score of 6-1. Former Maine Black Bear Ben Bishop stopped 39 of 40 shots he faced, and the B-Sens scored six unanswered goals on rookie goaltender Mark Visentin en route to the defeat. Brendan Shinnimin had the lone Pirates goal in a contest that saw the two teams split 150 penalty minutes and 36 infractions overall.
The Penguins, meanwhile, are coming off a 5-4 overtime loss at home to the Hershey Bears last night. Wilkes-Barre/Scranton scored two power play goals on the night, including Eric Tangradi’s game tying tally at the 3:04 mark in the third period, before Hershey’s Kevin Marshall scored the game winner in overtime. Penguins’ goalie Jeff Zatkoff stopped 21 of 26 shots for the Pens in the loss.
This will be the second meeting between the Portland Pirates and the W-B/Scranton Penguins, with the last one ending in the Pirates only shootout so far this season. After overcoming a 3 goal first period deficit on November 10th, the Piratesfailed to score in the overtime or shootout periods, allowing the Penguins’ Benn Ferriero to score the game winner on Visentin.
