The second period was a wild one. Evan Brophey got the scoring started for the Pirates, taking a feed from Chris Brown and slapping it past Bridgeport starter Kevin Poulin for his 4th of the year at the 3:14 mark. Rob Klinkhammer then struck at the 7:51 mark to tie the game at 2. Klinkhammer’s 9th of the year was assisted by Chris Summers and Brendan Shinnimin. Shinnimin played an integral part in the next goal, sending a pass to Jordan Szwarz that he put past Poulin at the 12:26 mark. Szwarz’s goal was his 4th of the year and came on the power play, with Evan Brophey picking up his second point of the night with the assist. Bridgeport retaliated, with former Pirate Matt Watkins getting the game tying goal just 1:20 later. The score remained unchanged until a Bridgeport mistake led to a Portland lead. Phil Lane, who had picked up a penalty with 2:09 left in the period, intercepted a pass intended for Nino Niederreiter and scored on the breakaway with just 1 second left in the second. Lane’s 2nd goal of the year was unassisted and gave the Pirates the 4-3 lead.
In the third, the Pirates extended their lead, as Brendan Shinnimin supplied the offense once again. Shinnimin tallied his 8th of the year at the 3:28 mark of the third to give him a 3 point night, and Pirates’ lead was extended to 2. Jordan Szwarz was credited with the assist. Shinnimin’s goal gave him a 2 goal, 1 assist night for his second straight game.
