Portland, ME – The Portland Pirates, in conjunction with Junior Achievement of Maine, have announced that Casco Bay High School students have sold 585 tickets for the Junior Achievement Game on February 1st against the Binghamton Senators. The current ticket sales number equates to $2,160 raised for Casco Bay High School through the program this year.

Casco Bay High School students participating in the intensive program spent two days learning about ticket sales from local business leaders, followed by an intensive classroom period in which they built presentations with help from the Pirates staff. The students then visited local businesses and pitched ticket products to business leaders in the community, with a portion of all tickets sold directly benefitting Casco Bay High School.

Over the past 9 years, the partnership between the Pirates, Junior Achievement of Maine and Casco Bay High School has raised over $30,000 for Casco Bay High School through the “Be Entrepreneurial” program. The funds have been used on technology upgrades, library books, and other projects. This year, the money raised by the students' will be used to support building renovations as the school undergoes a 3 year expansion from 280 students last year to about 400 students in 2015-2016.

Businesses who chose to purchase tickets from the students were able to do so at two levels; the “Valedictorian” Package, and the “Honor Roll” package. Participating businesses at the valedictorian level are Unum, Pine Tree Food Equipment, Communication Technologies Inc, and Geiger Bros. while “Honor Roll” level businesses are WASCO Products, KeyBank, Congress Associates, Dead River Company, Kaplan University, Diversified Communications, Portland Schools, Pro Search, MEMIC, Maine Education Services, and All Computer Solutions. Additionally, Preti Flaherty, Biddeford Savings, and Androscoggin Bank have made ticket purchases in support of Casco Bay High School, while Nappi Distributors has made a separate donation to support their efforts. “The Pirates would like to thank the local businesses who have supported Casco Bay High School with their time and contributions this year,” said Brian Petrovek, Pirates CEO. “The $2,160 raised this year is a marked improvement over last year’s total and the 19 participating businesses is an all-time high in the 9 year history of this program. The Pirates are extremely proud of the students who have participated in the program this year and we hope for more donations for Casco Bay High School as we approach game day on February 1st.”

“Our students have worked extremely hard in their Pirates intensive and this year’s total is a result of their hard work. We want to thank the Pirates and Junior Achievement of Maine for their help in organizing the program, as well as the businesses who have donated to Casco Bay High through their participation,” said Casco Bay High School Principal Derek Pierce.
