Junior Achievement Night presented by UNUM

For the past 8 seasons, the Portland Pirates have teamed up with Junior Achievement of Maine, UNUM, and Casco Bay High School to provide local students the opportunity to experience first-hand the business side of professional hockey.  The annual event is a lucrative fundraiser for Casco Bay’s technology needs, as a portion of the revenue goes back to the local high school.

Students who participate in the “Portland Pirates Intensive” at CBHS spend a week outside of the traditional classroom setting, with local professionals visiting to share their own experiences and speak on various topics related to being successful in business.  The students spend time developing business plans, scheduling meetings with local companies, and finally pitching “Portland Pirates Junior Achievement Night” sponsorship packages.

The students’ efforts culminate in an annual “Junior Achievement Night” at a Pirates home game, where they are shown first-hand the many aspects of a professional hockey production from a game operations standpoint.  This year, the Pirates hosted the Albany Devils on February 2nd, and a check was presented to Casco Bay High School on the ice during a pre-game ceremony.  Junior Achievement Night 2013 raised a total of $3,765.00!

Thank you to the many fine sponsors that supported the event and make it possible each year.  Please take the time to visit these local organizations via the links below!
