Providence, RI - The Providence Bruins claimed a 2-1 win over the Portland Pirates on Friday night in Game 5 of the Atlantic Division Semifinal at the Dunkin' Donuts Center. With the win, the Bruins won the best-of-seven series 4-1.
The Pirates started the scoring in the first period at the 10:25 mark on a power play goal by defenseman Mike Kostka. Kostka drilled a slap shot from the center point past the glove of Tuukka Rask and into the twine. The 1st goal of the postseason for Kostka was assisted by Colton Fretter and Marc-Andre Gragnani and was the Pirates first power play goal in the series.
Providence evened the score in the second period at the 5:46 mark on a play out of the left wing corner. Bruins' forward Dan Ryder centered a pass from the goalie restricted area to the high crease where Jordan Knackstedt knocked a one-timer past the glove of Jhonas Enroth and into the back of the net. The 1st postseason goal for Knackstedt was assisted by Dan Ryder and Ned Lukacevic.
The Bruins took a 2-1 advantage late in the middle period on a power play with just 45 seconds left on Peter Schaefer's 1st goal of the postseason. Schaefer took a long wrist shot from the high slot that beat Jhonas Enroth to his glove side.
In the final period, the Pirates put tons of pressure on the Bruins late in the game and pulled Jhonas Enroth with under a minute to go, but failed to scored and the Bruins escaped with a 2-1 win.
Portland's Jhonas Enroth made 36 saves in the loss. Providence's Tuukka Rask made 29 saves in the win.

Notes: The Pirates scored their first power play goal of the postseason and were 1/18 with the man advantage in the series. Colin Murphy was injured on a check in the first period and did not return. Attendance: 4,810.
