In the Community
The Portland Pirates are committed to help several key charities and organizations
during the 2009-2010 season including the United Way of Greater Portland, Gary's
House, the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center, STRIVE, the
Children's Museum of Maine and the WCSH 6 "Coats for Kids" program.
During the upcoming season the Pirates will again be extremely active in the
community with appearances at local schools, businesses and charity events. |
6th Annual Crackers Golf Classic Raises Over $7,000 for the United Way of Greater Portland
On Monday, September 28th, the Portland Pirates Foundation
will be hosting the 6th Annual Crackers Golf Classic at the Dunegrass Golf Club in Old
Orchard Beach, ME. The annual event generated over $7,000 for the 2008
United Way of Greater Portland Campaign, bringing the total contribution to the
United Way Campaign over the last three years to over $22,000. Over the
five-year history of the event over 450 golfers have helped raise funds for the
local community.
This year, participants had the opportunity to play
golf with current and former Pirates players and coaches, former Maine Mariners,
and other special guests. The celebrities at the event joined with registered
golfers to compete in a scramble format and a great day of fun. Click here to read the complete story and

Red Cross Blood Drive

| | Pirates forward Tyler Bouck will make an appearance at the Red Cross Donor Center to welcome donors, sign autographs and encourage fans to come and give blood. This location will be accepting donations from 12:00-7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 8. Dunkin Donuts will give away a pound of coffee to every donor during their "Give a Pint, Get a Pound" promotion throughout January, National Volunteer Blood Donor Month. 5th Annual "Day of Hockey"
CCCC Portland All Day Event
| | The Portland Pirates Foundation will host the 5th Annual "Day of Hockey" on Sunday, March 1, 2009. The event, sponsored by the Bill Dodge Auto Group and supported by the Cumberland County Civic Center, includes a hockey tournament and broomball game. All this and the Pirates will take on the Lowell Devils at 4:00 p.m.
Proceeds from the "Day of Hockey" will go to the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center. Over the past four years, the event has raised over $60,000 for the facility. More... | |

continue to be involved in events that support local charities and community

Portland Pirates mascots, Crackers and Salty Pete, have earned wide-spread popularity
throughout Maine as a result of their game night entertainment during Portland Pirates
games at the Cumberland County Civic Center and at various public appearances
(including private parties).
