Day of Hockey In the Community

The Portland Pirates are committed to help several key charities and organizations during the 2008-2009 season including the United Way of Greater Portland, Gary's House, the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center, STRIVE, the Children's Museum of Maine and the WCSH 6 "Coats for Kids" program.

During the upcoming season the Pirates will again be extremely active in the community with appearances at local schools, businesses and charity events.

Portland Pirates Foundation Hosts 4th Annual "Day of Hockey"

On Sunday, February 24th, the Portland Pirates Foundation hosted the 4th Annual "Day of Hockey" that included Salty Pete's "Skate for the Kids" sponsored by Weight Watchers and Mercy Hospital and The Maine Medical Center Broomball Tournament with Celebrity Referees Travis Lee, Lee Goldberg & Dave Eid, as well a Huskies Youth Hockey Mites tournament. The event was presented by the Bill Dodge Auto Group and supported by the Cumberland County Civic Center, Haley's Tire, Capozza Tile & Floor Covering Center, Citadel Broadcasting, JetBlue, J.S. McCarthy Printers and Shad's Custom Countertops, Inc.

Over the past three years, the event has raised over $45,000 for the Barbara Bush Children's Hospital at Maine Medical Center.

Portland Pirates mascots, Crackers and Salty Pete, have earned wide-spread popularity throughout Maine as a result of their game night entertainment during Portland Pirates games at the Cumberland County Civic Center and at various public appearances (including private parties).
