The Anaheim Ducks, parent club of the AHL’s Iowa Chops, today announced Gord Dineen as the first head coach in Chops history and also named Matt Laatsch as the assistant coach. Dineen (pictured) and Laatsch each spent last season in the Anaheim organization as assistant coaches for the AHL’s Portland Pirates and reached Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Finals. Read more...

The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins have signed goaltenders Adam Berkhoel and Curtis Darling, it was announced on Friday by Pittsburgh Penguins assistant general manager Chuck Fletcher. Berkhoel, 27, appeared in 31 games with the AHL's Grand Rapids Griffins last season, posting a 10-14-4 record with one shutout and a 2.93 goals-against average. Read more...

The New York Islanders announced on Tuesday that they have named Scott Gordon the team's head coach. Gordon, the 2007-08 winner of the Louis A.R. Pieri Award as the AHL's outstanding coach with the Providence Bruins, is the 14th head coach in franchise history and becomes the seventh former Pieri winner currently among the NHL coaching ranks. The San Jose Sharks, parent club of the AHL's Worcester Sharks, announced today the signing of right wing Ryan Vesce to a one-year contract. In 2005-06, Vesce led the Springfield Falcons in scoring with 67 points (18g, 49a) while skating in all 80 games. He appeared in the 2006 AHL All-Star Classic and tied for fourth in the league in rookie scoring that year. Read more...

The Manchester Monarchs announced Monday that they have signed center Marty Murray and defenseman Eric Werner to one-year contracts. Murray (pictured) wore the Monarchs jersey for 34 games during the 2006-07 season and collected 40 points, then added 14 points in 16 playoff games during Manchester's run to the Eastern Conference finals. The Chicago Wolves announced Monday that they have signed 11-year National Hockey League veteran defenseman Jamie Rivers. The two-time AHL All-Star Game participant has collected 17 goals, 49 assists, 66 points and 385 penalty minutes in 454 career NHL games, most recently with the St. Louis Blues during the 2006-07 season. The Buffalo Sabres, parent club of the AHL's Portland Pirates, have signed unrestricted free-agent forward Tyler Bouck. Bouck captained the Pirates last season, picking up 29 points (11 goals, 18 assists) and 86 penalty minutes in 79 regular-season games and adding two assists in 13 playoff games as Portland reached the Eastern Conference finals. The Toronto Maple Leafs have announced that Doug Gilmour has been appointed assistant coach of the AHL’s Toronto Marlies. Gilmour collected 1,414 points in 1,474 NHL games over a 20-year career, including a franchise-record 127 points for the Maple Leafs in 1992-93. “We are thrilled to have Doug join the coaching staff of the Marlies,” said Leafs G.M. The Florida Panthers, parent club of the AHL’s Rochester Americans, announced today that the club has re-signed forward Janis Sprukts to a one-year deal. Sprukts, who spent last season in Finland, ranked second on the Americans during the 2006-07 campaign with 59 points (18-41-59) in 58 games in addition to collecting three points (1-2-3) in 13 games with the Panthers.
