Unum Challenge
Pirates vs. Sharks for the Good of our Communities
The 2nd Annual Unum Challenge between the Portland Pirates
and the Worcester Sharks took place over the 10 game AHL 2007-2008 regular
season series. The Pirates captured the Unum Cup for the second year in a
row with a 6-1-3-0 record against the Sharks. As part of the challenge, Unum
donated $5,000 to the Portland Pirates Foundation.
At each game in each city, one lucky fan was chosen from those who had entered
as the Unum Challenge Fan of the Game. Each fan won a replica jersey and
received five (5) tickets to a future game.
From October 13 through December 21st (during the first 5 games of the series),
fans had the opportunity to guess how many total shots would be taken throughout
the 10 games of the Worcester-Portland series. At the end of the series, all the
fans who guessed the correct shot total received a co-branded Unum/Pirates/Sharks
hat.
Andrew Neilsen, the Pirates fan who guessed the correct shots total, was chosen
as the Grand Prize winner. He was invited to the final regular season home game
where the Unum Cup was presented to the Pirates during a post-game award ceremony.
He had the opportunity to participate in the presentation of the Cup to the
winning team, and was also awarded a prize from Unum!
