Kennebunk, ME – Portland Pirates forward Brendan Shinnimin and Pirates goaltender Mark Visentin visited the Sea Road School in Kennebunk on Thursday, February 28th  as part of the Goals for Success program, presented by Gorham Savings Bank. During the 30 minute program, both Visentin and Shinnimin discussed their personal experiences setting goals as well as living a healthy lifestyle and how it has affected their playing career as well as their personal lives in front of approximately 250 4th and 5th grade students.

The Goals for Success program teaches elementary and middle school the importance of setting achievable goals for themselves both in life as well as in sports. The program also follows the 5-2-1-0 Let’s Go! Methodology in teaching students how to live a healthy lifestyle by consuming 5 or more fruits and vegetables, having 2 or less hours of recreational “screen time”, participating in at least one hour of physical activity and drinking zero sugar sweetened drinks on a daily basis. 4th grader Owen Drummey shared, “ I am glad to hear that they eat their fruits and vegetables because I do too.”

“I had a great time at the Sea Road School. The kids were really involved during the assembly and knew a ton about the 5-2-1-0 program” said Visentin.

“The program was great – it’s an important message for the kids and it was awesome to see them so engaged in the program” said Shinnimin.

The Goals for Success program is in its 7th year and is sponsored by Gorham Saving Bank free of charge for eligible elementary and middle schools.

Sea Road Students also kicked off their “Trek Across America” walking program.  Students and staff are challenged to walk 3250 miles from Kennebunk to Astoria,Oregon.
