Portland, ME – The Portland Pirates, winners of their last 5 home games, will look to tie Providence atop the Atlantic Division when they face the Bruins tonight at the Cumberland County Civic Center. Puck drop is set for 7 PM for the 8th clash between the two division rivals this season, with the Bruins holding a 4-2-0-1 advantage.

The Pirates are coming off a 4-3 victory against Manchester on Sunday night at the Civic Center. Pirates forward Chris Conner gave the Pirates the win by netting the game winner just 7 seconds into the overtime period. Phil Lane scored twice, giving him seven goals on the season, while Andy Miele tallied three assists. Rookie goaltender Mike Lee picked up his 6th win for the Pirates, stopping 21 of the 22 shots he faced.

Providence has won 4 of their last 5 games, racking up 20 goals in the process. Ryan Spooner leads Providence in points as a rookie with 38, while veteran Jamie Tardif has chipped in 26 goals. Providence faltered in their last game, however, a 3-2 shootout loss to the Norfolk Admirals.

These two teams are used to being in tight games against one another, as four of the seven games played have been decided by 1 goal. The last contest took place on February 11th on Providence’s home ice where the Pirates came out with a 5-2 victory. Rob Klinkhammer, Phil Lane, Chris Brown and Jordan Martinook had the goals for the Pirates. Jamie Tardif accounted for both of Providence’s goals in the loss.

Tonight’s game can be heard on 95.5 and 95.9 WPEI in the Portland area, 92.7FM and 100.7 FM WOXO FM in the Lewiston/Auburn area, and online on the WLOB radio player and AHL Live. The pregame show starts at 6:40 with Jeff Mannix. Tickets are still available by calling (207) 828-4665 ext. 350 or online at ticketmaster.com.
