Pirates Return to Colisée, Face IceCaps
Lewiston, Me – The Portland Pirates will return to the state of Maine for the first time in over 2 weeks when they face the St. John’s IceCaps at the Androscoggin Bank Colisée in Lewiston on Sunday afternoon. Puck drop is set for 4 PM for the final regular season game of the season at the Colisée, where the Pirates are 4-1 on the year.
The Pirates defeated the Springfield Falcons by a 3-1 score last night in their final trip to the MassMutual Center this season. Mike Lee started for the Pirates, and stopped 27 of 28 shots for the Pirates to pick up his 4th career win, and Boris Valabik scored his first goal with the Pirates to lead the team. Chris Brown and Rob Klinkhammer also added tallies for the Pirates, who remain 1 point back of the Providence Bruins for first place in the Atlantic Division.
St. John’s is coming off a 5-3 win against the Manchester Monarchs in their second game of their 6 game road trip. 5 different IceCaps scored in the game and Chris Carrozzi picked up the win in relief of starter Mark Dekanich. The win snapped a 5 game losing streak for the IceCaps.
The Pirates and IceCaps last faced off in Portland on November 2nd in the Pirates’ opener at the Cumberland County Civic Center. Chad Johnson picked up his second shutout of the year and against the IceCaps on November 2nd in Portland’s 3-0 win. Portland leads the season series 2-1, with their only loss an 8-7 overtime thriller in St. John’s at the MileOne Centre.
Portland will again be without goaltenders Chad Johnson and Mark Visentin due to injury. In their place, rookies Mike Lee and Louis Domingue will man the net as both were called up from the Gwinnett Gladiators of the East Coast Hockey League this week. This will be a return to the Colisée for Domingue, who spent 5 seasons in the Quebec Major-Junior Hockey League with the Moncton Wildcats and the Quebec Remparts.
The game can be heard on 95.5 and 95.9 WPEI in the Portland area, 92.7FM and 100.7 FM WOXO FM in the Lewiston/Auburn area, and online on the WLOB radio player and AHL Live. The pregame show starts at 3:40 with Jeff Mannix.
