Pirates Take on Sharks in Portland
Portland, ME – The Portland Pirates will look to start the second half of the season on the right foot when they take on the Worcester Sharks at the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland. Faceoff will be at 7 PM as the Pirates and Sharks will clash for the ninth time this season.
This is the Pirates first game since the All-Star Break. The Pirates last played on January 26th when they defeated the Manchester Monarchs 3-1. Mike Lee, making his first career AHL start, stopped 31 of the 32 shots faced for his second career win. The Pirates never trailed in the game as Portland scored a pair of goals in the first 1:53 of the first period. Chris Summers got the Pirates on the board first with his second goal of the year just 27 seconds in. Darian Dziurzynski netted the second goal of the night for the Pirates just 1:26 later, his 5th of the year. Chris Conner also scored for Portland, his 8th of the season.
This is also Worcester’s first game since the All-Star Break. Before that, the Sharks last played on January 26th, falling 4-3 to the Providence Bruins in a shootout. Bracken Kearns, Mike Banwell and Brodie Reid all scored for Worcester Sharks while Alex Stalock faced 38 shots, stopping 35.
The Sharks last faced Portland back on January 13th, in which Portland won 3-1 in Worcester. Brett Hextall, Chris Conner and Jordan Szwarz all scored for the Pirates that night while Chad Johnson stopped 26 of the 27 shots faced. This will be the ninth the two teams have faced this season, with the Pirates leading the season series 5-3.
