WEEK OF JANUARY 21st, 2013

 

WEEK IN REVIEW

Record this week: (1-3-0-0)   Overall Record: (24-15-1-1)

 

Tuesday, January 15th: Connecticut 6, Portland 1

The Pirates saw their record tying 8 game home win streak come to an end, falling 6-1 to the Connecticut Whale. Mathieu Brodeur had the lone Pirates goal, his 3rd of the year.

Friday, January 18th: Portland 3, at Providence 2 (SO)

The Pirates defeated the Providence Bruins 3-2 after a thrilling 7 round shootout. Darian Dziurzynski had both Pirates goals in regulation and Jordan Szwarz had the game winner in the shootout after Chris Conner scored the tying shootout goal in the 5th round.

Saturday, January 19th: Connecticut 4, Portland 1

For the second time in a week, the Whale defeated the Pirates at home, this time by a 4-1 margin. Ethan Werek had the Pirates’ tally, as Connecticut scored three of their 4 goals on special teams.

Sunday, January 20th at Manchester 5, Portland 2

The Pirates took an early lead but were unable to hold on, falling to the Monarchs in Manchester by a 5-2 score. Darian Dziurzynski and Brandon Gormley had goals for the Pirates as Manchester took a 4-3 lead in the VIP Cup Series, presented by VIP Parts, Tires, & Service.

THIS COMING WEEK

Friday, January 25th at Providence (7:05 PM)

The Pirates travel to Providence for the second Friday in a row to face the P-Bruins at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center. Faceoff is at 7 PM.

Saturday, January 26th vs.  Manchester (7 PM)

The Pirates play the Monarchs in VIP Cup Series action at home on Saturday in a game that will be televised on TWC-TV Channel 9. Team photos will be given away courtesy of the Portland Press Herald and Brown Fox Printing, and make sure to wear your seatbelt on your way to the game for Click It or Ticket, Presented by Maine Bureau of Highway Safety!

Practice will be held at the Cumberland County Civic Center Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday at 10:30 AM and is open to the public

SALTY PETE’S PIRATES OF THE WEEK

  • Darian Dziurzynski had 2 goals against Providence on Friday for his first career multipoint game, and added a goal vs. Manchester Sunday. He is on a 3 game point streak, after adding an assist vs. Connecticut on Saturday night.
  • Chad Johnson had 37 saves vs. Providence Friday, winning his first shootout contest of the year
  • Brandon Gormley had 3 points on the weekend, with a goal Sunday at Manchester, and assists on Friday vs. Providence and Sunday.
