The Pirates are coming off a 4-1 defeat to the Connecticut Whale Saturday night, their second loss to the Whale this week. Ethan Werek had the lone Pirates goal, as the Whale’s special teams accounted for two power play goals and a shorthanded goal. Pirates’ starter Mark Visentin stopped 21 of 25 shots in the defeat.

Manchester, meanwhile, defeated the Providence Bruins by a 3-1 score on Saturday night, with goaltender Peter Mannino stopping 45 of 46 shots in the win. David Kolomatis and Brandon Kozun had goals for the Monarchs, with Stefan Legein adding an empty netter.

The Monarchs were responsible for snapping the Pirates’ season high 6 game win streak when these two teams last met on December 22nd in Manchester. Manchester went 3 for 6 on the power play en route to a 5-3 victory. Ethan Werek, Andy Miele, and Rob Klinkhammer provided the scoring for the Pirates, but it was not enough as the Monarchs tied the VIP Cup series at 3 games apiece.
