Portland, ME – The 1st place Portland Pirates return home on Saturday to face the Connecticut Whale for the second time in 5 days. The puck will drop at 7 pm for the 5th matchup between the Whale and the Pirates this season, with the Pirates holding a 3-1 advantage in the season series. Tonight’s game will feature Olaf Kolzig Bobblehead Night, presented by Unifirst, as the first 1,000 fans will receive a bobblehead of the Pirates’ Hall of Fame goalie.

Portland traveled to Providence last night where they came away with a thrilling 3-2 shootout victory. Darian Dziurzynski had his first multi goal game of his career, scoring both Pirates goals in regulation, and Chad Johnson stopped 37 of 39 shots to send the game into a shootout. Chris Conner scored in the 5th round of the shootout to tie the score at 1, and Jordan Szwarz would get the game winner in round 7 to give the Pirates their 14th win in their last 17 games.

Connecticut, meanwhile, traveled to Springfield where they were handed a 4-2 defeat at the hands of the Falcons. Kris Newbury continued his hot streak for the Whale, scoring twice, but it wasn’t enough as the Falcons scored 4 straight in the first and second to earn the victory. Whale starter Cam Talbot stopped 24 of 28 shots in the loss.

Connecticut defeated Portland to end their record tying 8 game home streak by a 6-1 score on Tuesday. Newbury had two of the Whale’s goals in the contest, and the Whale would tack on 2 shorthanded goals as well. Mark Visentin, who had been on a 6 game win streak of his own, allowed 6 goals on 22 shots to take the loss.

Tickets are still available by calling (207) 828-4665 ext. 350 or online at ticketmaster.com.

The game can be heard on 95.5 and 95.9 WPEI in the Portland area, 92.7FM and 100.7 FM WOXO FM in the Lewiston/Auburn area, and online on the WLOB radio player and AHL Live, with the pregame show starting at 6:40 with the voice of the Pirates, Jeff Mannix.
