Pirates Travel the Providence to Renew Rivalry with Bruins

 Providence, RI– The first place Portland Pirates will be on the road Friday night, as they travel to the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence to face the Providence Bruins. The puck will drop at 7:05 pm as the Pirates face the Bruins for the 5th time this season. The P-Bruins hold a 4-1 advantage in the season series.

The Pirates are coming off a 6-1 defeat at the hands of the Connecticut Whale on Tuesday that saw their record tying home win streak come to an end. Mark Visentin, who had won 6 straight starts, allowed 6 goals on 22 shots, with Mathieu Brodeur scoring the only Portland tally. Despite the loss, he Pirates have won 13 of their last 16 games, and sit in first place in the Atlantic Division, 6 points ahead of the Worcester Sharks.

The Providence Bruins are coming off a 2-1 victory over the Manchester Monarchs last Sunday, with Craig Cunningham and Graham Mink supplying the offence for the Bruins. Niklas Svedberg stopped 24 of 25 saves in the victory. Providence has won three of their last 5 games, and currently sits in third in the Atlantic Division with 40 points.

This will be the Pirates second trip to the Dunk this season, as they were defeated by a 3-2 score. Former Pirate Trent Whitfield, a member of the Pirates’ 10 year all-time team, scored the game winner for the P-Bruins with under three minutes to go in the third. Chad Johnson stopped 27 shots for the Pirate in the loss.
