Pirates Look to Make History Against Whale
Portland, ME – The Portland Pirates will look to break the franchise home winning streak when they face the Connecticut Whale Tuesday night at the Cumberland County Civic Center. With a win tonight, Portland would break the previous record of 8 consecutive home wins that was set in the inaugural 1993-94 season, and was matched again in the 2009-10 season. Faceoff will be at 7 PM as the Pirates and Whale will face off for the fourth time this season.
The Pirates are coming off a 3-1 win against the Worcester Sharks last Sunday to extend their current win streak to four. Rob Klinkhammer continued his impressive play for the Pirates, adding two assists, his third straight game with a point. Jordan Szwarz, Chris Conner and Brett Hextall all scored goals for the Pirates while Chad Johnson stopped 26 of 27 shots to record his 13th win of the season.
Connecticut played last Sunday as well, dropping a 5-0 decision to the Hershey Bears. The Whale were able to put 27 shots on net, but couldn’t solve Hershey goaltenders Philipp Grubauer and Dany Sabourin.
Tonight’s game will be a familiar one for newly acquired Pirate Bryce Lampman, as he played 258 games for the Hartford Wolf Pack from 2002-2007. The Hartford Wolf Pack renamed the franchise the Connecticut Whale in October of 2010.
The Pirates are 3-0 vs. the Whale this season, defeating Connecticut twice at the Cumberland County Civic Center. The Pirates last faced the Whale on December 31st in their annual New Year’s Eve game, defeating Connecticut by a 4-3 score.
Tickets are still available by calling (207) 828-4665 ext. 350 or online at ticketmaster.com.
The game can be heard on 95.5 and 95.9 WPEI in the Portland area, 92.7FM and 100.7 FM WOXO FM in the Lewiston/Auburn area, and online on the WLOB radio player and AHL Live.
