Pirates Head to Worcester to battle with Sharks
Worcester, MA– The 1st place Portland Pirates finish up their 2 game road trip on Sunday afternoon when they travel to the DCU Center in Worcester to face the Sharks. Puck drop is a 3 PM for the second matchup between the top two teams in the Atlantic Division this week.
The Pirates were victorious in the first game of the road trip, a 6-3 come from behind victory over the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport on Saturday night. Brendan Shinnimin continued his hot streak, scoring twice and adding an assist, and Jordan Szwarz chipped in 2 goals and an assist of his own. Evan Brophey had a 3 point nigh with a goal and two assists, and Mark Visentin won his 6th straight start after stopping 39 of 42 shots. The Pirates improved to 3-0 against the Sound Tigers this year.
Worcester was in action on Saturday, falling by a 4-1 margin to the Devils in Albany. Freddy Hamilton scored the lone Sharks goal as 8 regular Worcester players were healthy scratches due to the impending NHL training camp. The Sharks fell to 0-2 against Albany this season in their final game against the Devils.
Worcester and Portland met at the Cumberland County Civic Center last Tuesday, with the Pirates scoring 7 goals en route to a final of 7-3 and their record tying 8th straight win at home. Brendan Shinnimin scored twice and added an assist, with Chris Brown tallying two goals for the Pirates as well. The Sharks currently sit in 2nd place in the Atlantic Division, 5 points back of the Pirates, who are tied with Springfield for second in the Eastern Conference with 46 points.
This afternoon’s game can be heard on 95.5 and 95.9 WPEI in the Portland area, 92.7FM and 100.7 FM WOXO FM in the Lewiston/Auburn area, and online on the WLOB radio player and AHL Live.
