Pirates Make First Trip to Bridgeport, Face Sound Tigers

Bridgeport, CT– The 1st place Portland Pirates look to continue their winning ways with a matchup against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers tonight at Webster Bank Arena in Bridgeport. Puck drop is at 7:00 pm for the third matchup between these two teams this season and the first matchup in Bridgeport.
Portland has not played since Tuesday when they defeated the Worcester Sharks by a 7-3 margin at the Cumberland County Civic Center. Rookie forwards Chris Brown and Brendan Shinnimin each scored two goals and Shinnimin added an assist as the Pirates scored 5 unanswered goals to overcome a 3-2 deficit. The win gives the Pirates a record tying 8 straight wins at home, and 11 wins in their last 13 games. Chad Johnson started in net for the Pirates, stopping 30 of 33 shots to pick up his 12th win of the year.
Bridgeport was in action last night, falling by a 5-4 score to the Providence Bruins. Bridgeport trailed 5-0 after the second period, but managed 4 third period goals in front of a hostile crowd at the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Providence. Travis Hamonic, Aaron Ness, David Ullstrom, and Johan Sundstrom had the tallies for the Sound Tigers.
These two teams met a week ago, with the Pirates dropping the Sound Tigers 2-1. Mark Visentin had his second straight solid performance for the Pirates, stopping 39 of the 40 shots he faced to win his 6th straight game. Pirates goals were scored by Alexandre Bolduc and Andy Miele, but the real fireworks came with both Joel Rechlicz and Darian Dziurzynski dropped the gloves with Bridgeport’s Brett Gallant and Nathan McIver for two exceptional heavyweight bouts. The Pirates are 2-0 against the Sound Tigers this year, with both wins coming at the Cumberland County Civic Center.
