Pirates Return to Civic Center to Face Sound Tigers
Portland, ME – The first place Portland Pirates return home on Saturday when they face the Bridgeport Sound Tigers for the second time this season. Puck drop will be at 7 pm for the second matchup between these two teams this season.
Portland is coming off a 3-2 defeat in Providence last night, as former Pirate Trent Whitfield scored the game winner for the P-Bruins in the third period. Rob Klinkhammer and Alexandre Bolduc had the goals for Portland, while netminder Chad Johnson stopped 27 of the 30 shots he faced in the loss. The loss was only the second for the Pirates in their last 11 games, which has seen the Pirates move from 4th place in the Atlantic Division to 1st place.
The Sound Tigers return to the Civic Center after a 5-4 loss at the hands of the Springfield Falcons. Bridgeport allowed 4 goals in the first, but came back to within one before Nick Drazenovic would get the game winner for the Falcons. Sound Tigers leading scorer Nino Niederreiter tallied his 17th goal of the season in the first period.
Portland and Bridgeport last met on December 11th, with the Pirates coming away with a 2-1 overtime win. David Rundblad had the game winner 3:14 into the extra frame for his second OT goal of the season. Both team’s leading scorers, Alexandre Bolduc and Nino Niederreiter, had goals in the game.
