Pirates Make First Trip to Dunkin Donuts Center to Face Providence

 Providence, RI– The Portland Pirates look to continue their winning ways with a matchup against the Providence Bruins tonight at the Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence. Puck drop is at 7:05 pm for the fourth matchup between these two teams this season and the first matchup in Providence.

The Pirates and Bruins are coming off an exciting 2-1 contest won by Portland on Wednesday. The game was supposed to be played on December 27th, but was postponed due to inclement weather. Providence would take the early lead when Ryan Spooner scored his 7th goal of the season at the 8:05 mark. Portland answered later in the second when Andy Miele beat Providence goaltender Niklas Svedberg blocker side to even the score at 1-1. The score would remain that way until the 16:13 mark in the 3rd period where Portland’s Rob Klinkhammer found Jordan Szwarz who finished off a 2-on-1 break to give the Pirates the lead for good. Mark Visentin, who stopped 48 of the 49 shots he faced, was the 1st star of the game. Visentin came up big early in the third period with several quality saves, helping to kill off a 5-on-3 penalty.

This will be the fourth meeting between the Portland Pirates and the Providence Bruins this season, with Providence leading the season series 2-1. After tonight’s matchup, the Pirates and Bruins won’t meet again until January 18 in Providence. The Pirates have won 9 of their last 10 and sit in 1st in the Atlantic Division with 40 points, while Providence sits in 3rd in the Atlantic with 34 points.

The game can be heard on 95.5 and 95.9 WPEI in the Portland area, 92.7FM and 100.7 FM WOXO FM in the Lewiston/Auburn area, and online on the WLOB radio player and AHL Live.
