Pirates, Adirondack to Clash in Lewiston
Lewiston, ME – The Portland Pirates will look to start another winning streak when they face the Adirondack Phantoms Saturday night at the Androscoggin Bank Colisée. Faceoff will be at 7 PM as the Pirates and Phantoms will clash for the second time this season.
The Pirates are coming off a disappointing 5-3 loss to the Monarchs in Manchester that ended their season long 6 game winning streak. Andy Miele continued his impressive play for the Pirates, netting a goal in his 4th straight game, but it was not enough as the Monarchs’ Tyler Toffoli had his second hat trick against the Pirates this season. Chad Johnson had 32 saves on 36 shots for the Pirates, with Toffoli’s third goal of the night an empty netter. The Monarchs’ win tied the VIP Cup Series, presented by VIP Parts, Tires, & Service at 3 games apiece.
Adirondack played last night,falling by a 4-2 score to the Providence Bruins in Glens Falls, NY, snapping the Phantom’s 3 game win streak. Phantoms goaltender Cal Heeter stopped 31 of 34 shots in the defeat, while Brayden Schenn and Eric Wellwood provided the Adirondack offense.
The Phantoms last faced Portland in the season opener for both teams, in which Adirondack won 6-3 in Glens Falls, NY. Portland goalie Chad Johnson faced 47 shots in the contest, turning away 42, while Ethan Werek, Oliver Ekman-Larsson, and Andy Miele scored for the Pirates.
