Set on Seven: Pirates travel to Manchester Looking to Extend Win Streak
Manchester, NH– The Portland Pirates travel to Manchester on Saturday to take on Atlantic division foe Monarchs for the second time in 10 days. The puck drops at 7PM for the sixth game of the VIP Cup Series, presented by VIP Parts, Tires and Service, with Portland holding a 3-2 advantage in the series.
Portland is looking to extend their win streak to 7 games, as they are coming off of an impressive come from behind victory on Thursday evening again the Springfield Falcons. Trailing for most of the game, the Pirates rallied late with two goals in 26 seconds to erase a 2-1 deficit, with Brett Hextall getting the game winner. Pirates net minder Mark Visentin turned aside 20 of 22 shots for his fifth win of the season, moving Portland to 16-10-1-1 mark on the season, good for 34 points and first place in the Atlantic division.
The month of December has not been so pleasant for Manchester, as they are 3-5 in the month and have slipped to fourth place in division standings with an overall record of 12-12-2-2 on the season. The Monarchs are coming off a 5-2 loss to the Connecticut Whale last night, despite outshooting Connecticut 41 to 29.
The last time these two teams met was on December 14th at the Androscoggin Bank Colisée in Lewiston, where Portland edged the Monarchs 4-2. The Pirates have won 3 straight games in the VIP Cup Series, giving them a 3-2 advantage.
