Pirates looking to stay hot, extend win streak to 6 vs. Springfield
Portland, Maine–The Pirates look to continue their stellar play when they host the Springfield Falcons this Wednesday at the Cumberland County Civic Center. The puck will drop at 7:05PM as these two clubs will face off for first time since November 23rd.
Looking to extend their win streak to 6 games, Portland is coming off a 3-2 road victory against the Worcester Sharks on Sunday, backed by the superb play of netminder Chad Johnson, who secured his 10th victory of the season. Andy Miele had his second game winning goal in as many games, with Jordan Szwarz notching two assists on the night. The Pirates’ victory ran their winning streak to 5 games, the longest since the 2010-2011 season, and has vaulted them into first place in the Atlantic Division.
The Springfield Falcons are also coming off a victory, a 3-2 shootout battle against the Manchester Monarchs on Sunday afternoon. Nick Drazenovic had the game winner in the shootout, with Cam Atkinson and Jon Audy-Marchessault scoring in regulation for the Falcons. The Falcons have a commanding 8 point lead in the Northeast Division, and are second in the Eastern Conference, behind the Syracuse Crunch.
This will be the first time that these two teams have met since Portland’s come from behind 6-5 overtime thriller in which they erased a 4-1 deficit to win 19 seconds into overtime with the help of forward Oliver Ekman-Larsson on November 23rd. The Pirates scored 4 power play goals in the second period, with both starting goaltenders being relieved in the second period.
