WEEK OF DECEMBER 17th, 2012

 WEEK IN REVIEW

December 11th – Portland 2, Bridgeport 1 (OT)

The Pirates took their first game against Bridgeport this year, a 2-1 overtime thriller that saw David Rundblad get his second game winning goal in overtime this season. Alexandre Bolduc also scored for the Pirates, his team leading 13th goal of the year.

December 14th – Portland 4, Manchester 2

In their return to the Androscoggin Bank Colisée, the Pirates came from behind to take a 3-2 lead in the VIP Cup Series, presented by VIP Parts, Tires, and Service. Oliver Ekman-Larsson got the game winner for the Pirates in the third, with Rundblad, Chris Brown, and Brett Hextall adding goals as well.

December 15th – Portland 1, Connecticut 0

Andy Miele provided the lone goal and Mark Visentin stopped all 28 shots he faced for his first professional shutout. The Pirates improved to 2-0 against the Whale this season, with both games coming in Hartford.

December 16th – Portland 3, Worcester 2

The Pirates finished their 2 game road trip with a victory. Andy Miele again had the game winning goal, and Brandon Gormley and Brendan Shinnimin added tallies of their own for the Pirates. The victory gave the Pirates their first 5 game winning streak since the 2010-2011 season.

SALTY PETE’S PIRATES OF THE WEEK

1)      Andy Miele scored two goals this week, both of them game winners. Miele’s goal on Saturday night was the lone goal against Connecticut, and his goal against the Sharks on Sunday sealed a 3-2 Pirates victory. Miele now has 7 goals on the season.

2)      Mark Visentin made 28 saves en route to his first professional shutout on Saturday night against the Whale. Visentin had shared a shutout with Chad Johnson earlier in the season.

3)      Chris Brown scored his 10th career AHL goal, good for second on the team, against the Monarchs on Friday.

 

THIS COMING WEEK

Wednesday, December 19th vs. Springfield

The Pirates clash with the Springfield Falcons in a battle of division leaders before the holiday break. The puck will drop at 7 PM from the Cumberland County Civic Center.

Saturday, December 22nd at Manchester

The Monarchs and Pirates will play game 6 of the VIP Cup Series on Saturday. The Pirates have won 3 straight to take a 3-2 advantage. The puck will drop at 7 PM.
