Pirates Return Home to Face Bridgeport
Portland, ME– The Portland Pirates look to continue their winning ways with a matchup against the Sound Tigers of Bridgeport tonight at the Cumberland County Civic Center in Portland. Puck drop is at 7:00 pm for the first matchup between these two teams this season.
The Pirates are coming off an exciting come from behind shootout victory over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins on Saturday night. Trailing 3-0 mid-way through the 2nd period, Portland rallied with Chris Brown’s 9th goal of the season with 7:48 to play in the 2nd period, cutting the deficit to 3-1. Later in the 3rd period, Jordan Martinook recorded his 1st career AHL goal, and Oliver Ekman-Larsson also found the net to tie the Penguins 3-3 with 11:30 minutes remaining in regulation. After a scoreless overtime, Rob Klinkhammer and Chris Conner both beat goaltender Brad Thiessen to propel Portland to the victory.
The Sound Tigers are coming of an impressive 7-2 victory over the Syracuse Crunch last Sunday, snapping their 8 game winless streak. Goaltender Anders Nilsson stopped 37 of 39 shots he faced in the contest. Colin McDonald, Bridgeport’s recently named captain, recorded 2 goals and 2 assists in his first home game in his new role.
This will be the first meeting between the Portland Pirates and the Bridgeport Sound Tigers this season. After tonight’s matchup, the Pirates and Sound Tigers won’t meet again until January 5, 2013 in Portland.
