December 7th – Binghamton 6, Portland 1

The Pirates took an early lead on a Brendan Shinnimin goal, but lost it just 29 seconds later as Binghamton would go on to score 6 unanswered goals. Mark Visentin took the loss for the Pirates in a game that saw a number of fights and penalties, totaling 110 minutes and 36 infractions.

December 8th – Portland 4, Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 3 (Shootout)

The Pirates fell behind the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins 3-0 for the second time this season, and again rallied to tie the game. Chris Brown, Jordan Martinook (First AHL goal) and Oliver Ekman-Larsson scored for the Pirates to tie the game, and Mike Lee stood strong in his first AHL game after coming on in relief of Visentin, stopping 28 of 29 shots to force a shootout. Lee was perfect in the shootout, while Chris Conner and Rob Klinkhammer both scored to give the Pirates the win.

SALTY PETE’S PIRATES OF THE WEEK

1)      Mike Lee came on in relief of Mark Visentin on Saturday night and got his first AHL win. Lee stopped 29 of 30 shots as well as all 4 shootout attempts he faced for the victory against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.

2)      Jordan Martinook scored his first AHL goal against the Penguins on Saturday night, pulling Portland within one en route to their 3 goal comeback.

3)      Alexandre Bolduc is on a 3 game point streak, having tallied an assist in both games this weekend as well as 2 in last Sunday’s game at Manchester.

 

THIS COMING WEEK

Tuesday, December 11th vs. Bridgeport

The Pirates play the Sound Tigers for the first time this season as they face off at the Cumberland County Civic Center. Puck drops at 7 PM.

Friday, December 14th vs. Manchester (at the Androscoggin Bank Colisée)

The Pirates return to the Androscoggin Bank Colisée for game 5 of the VIP Cup Series, presented by VIP Parts, Tires, and Service, as they face the Manchester Monarchs. Puck drops at 7 PM. The VIP Cup Series is currently tied 2-2, as Portland has won the last two games.

Saturday, December 15th at Connecticut

The Pirates travel to Hartford to face the Whale for the second time this season, having defeated them 2-1 on November 16th. Faceoff is at 7 PM.

Sunday, December 16th at Worcester

Portland travels to Worcester to renew their rivalry with the Sharks on Sunday in a special matinee game that starts at 3 PM. The Pirates and Sharks last saw each other on November 30th, with the Pirates prevailing 4-3.
