Pirates, Sharks to Clash at Civic Center

by cknoblock on November 29, 2012

Portland, ME –   The Portland Pirates are back in action Friday after having four days off as they will look to keep their hot streak going. The Pirates hit the ice at 7PM for a divisional matchup versus the Worcester Sharks at the Cumberland County Civic Center.

The Pirates are coming off a 3-2 overtime thriller as they defeated the Manchester Monarchs on the road on November 25th. The road tilt was finalized just 1:37 into the overtime frame when David Rundblad netted his second goal of the season off a feed from line mate Andy Miele to push the Pirates to a record of 8-8-1-1 while landing in fourth place in the Atlantic Division. Goaltender Chad Johnson recorded 37 saves, earning his 6th victory of the season.

Worcester is also sitting on four days of rest, but are looking to bounce back from a 6-1 defeat on the road against the Eastern Division leading Syracuse Crunch, with Dustin Tokarski scoring the Sharks lone goal. The Sharks (9-7-1-1) are third in the Atlantic Division standings, just 2 points ahead of Portland.

These two teams are quite familiar with each other, as they met just one week ago in what turned out to be a knuckle bruising brawl.  The hard feelings all started during a 1:06 span in the second period that saw five fights. Tensions only flared from there, as the two foes combined for a total 143 minutes in penalties. This will be the fifth meeting between Worcester and Portland, with the Sharks showing dominance up to this point, holding the season series 3-1.

Friday’s game will be Teddy Bear Toss night, and fans are encouraged to bring bears to the game. After the first Pirates goal, fans will be able to throw their bears on the ice, with all the bears
