Portland Pirates Announce 2012 Teddy Bear Toss
Presented by the Portland Press Herald, with Support from Mercy Hospital, Gorham Savings Bank, and Rainbow Toys
Goal of 2,000 Bears set to donate to Toys for Tots
Portland, Maine – The Portland Pirates announced that the Teddy Bear Toss, presented by the Portland Press Herald will take place at the Cumberland County Civic Center during the game on November 30th between the Worcester Sharks and the Portland Pirates. Faceoff is at 7:00 PM.
Fans that bring teddy bears for donation to the November 30th game will be able to toss them onto the ice following the Pirates’ first goal of the game, whenever that takes place. All of the teddy bears will be donated to Toys for Tots following the game.
The goal of 2,000 bears was set following last year’s successful Teddy Bear Toss, which saw just over 1,000 bears donated to Toys for Tots. Fans are encouraged to bring bears to the game, and can purchase them at Rainbow Toys in Falmouth. Rainbow Toys has also donated bears to Toys for Tots as part of the event.
This year’s Teddy Bear Toss was organized with the help of the University of Southern Maine’s BUS 317 Sports Management class, which was responsible for developing sponsor partnerships to accompany the Portland Press Herald as presenting sponsor. Through the efforts of 5 members of the class, Mercy Hospital, Gorham Savings Bank, and Rainbow Toys have signed on as sponsors.
