Pirates set to go Whaling in Connecticut
Portland, Maine – The Portland Pirates travel to Hartford for the first time this season as they travel to face the Connecticut Whale in Eastern Conference action Friday night. The Puck will drop at 7 pm from the XL Center.
The Pirates are coming off a disappointing loss to the Worcester Sharks in Lewiston at the Colisée Wednesday, falling 4-2. Portland held the lead for the majority of the game, with Rob Klinkhammer providing both goals in support of goaltender Mark Visentin, but the Sharks would score three unanswered (including an empty netter) in the last 10 minutes of the game to give them the victory. Visentin took the loss for Portland, giving up 3 goals on 28 shots on the night to fall to 1-2-0-1 on the year.
The Whale are coming off a loss to the rival Bridgeport Sound Tigers, falling by a 4-3 margin in Bridgeport. Michael Haley scored a couple goals for the Whale, but goaltender Cam Talbot allowed a breakaway tally with under 5 minutes left in the third to drop the game. The Whale, currently 4th in the Northeastern Division, are led in scoring by Kris Newbury, who has registered 14 points on the year (5G,9A).
This will be the first game back in Connecticut for Pirates’ goaltender Chad Johnson, who spent 2 years with the Whale, playing in 89 games and registering 3 shutouts. Johnson also spent a year with the Hartford Wolfpack before their name change.
The game can be heard on 95.5 and 95.9 WPEI in the Portland area, 92.7FM and 100.7 FM WOXO FM in the Lewiston/Auburn area, and online on the WLOB radio player and AHL Live.
The Pirates have a very quick turnaround, as they return to action the next day, November 17th, in Portland against the Providence Bruins for Military Appreciation Night, presented by Martin’s Point Health Care. Tickets are still available by calling the Pirates office at (207) 828-4665 ext. 350 or online at ticketmaster.com
