Pirates Weekly Week of 11/12/12

WEEK OF NOVEMBER 12th, 2012 

WEEK IN REVIEW

November 9th – at Worcester 3, Portland 1

Chris Brown scored just 62 seconds into the game, but the Pirates couldn’t hold on to the lead as the Sharks scored three unanswered to beat the Pirates 3-1 in their road trip opener. Chad Johnson had 30 saves on 32 shots, with the Sharks adding an empty net goal in the loss.

November 10th – at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton 4, Portland 3 (SH)

The Pirates trailed by 3 goals after the first, as the Penguins scored 3 time during a streak of 14 straight shots. However, goals from Brandon Gormley, Chris Brown, and Alexandre Bolduc would bring the Pirates even at the end of regulation, and ultimately forced a shootout. The Pirates went scoreless in the shootout and goals from Benn Ferriero and Eric Tangradi would give the Pens the victory. Mark Visentin stopped 38 of the 41 shots he faced in the shootout loss.

November 11th – Portland 3, at Hershey 1

The Pirates fell behind early, but rallied after an Andy Miele goal tied the game up in the first. Michael Stone’s second period goal proved to be the game winner, and Alexandre Bolduc would add another goal to seal the Pirates victory.

SALTY PETE’S PIRATES OF THE WEEK

1)      Chris Brown had the lone Pirates goal against Worcester, and added a goal and an assist against the Hershey Bears to give him a 3 point weekend

2)      Chad Johnson stopped 22 of the 23 shots he faced against Hershey in Sunday’s win, and stopped 30 of the 32 shots he faced on Friday night in the 3-1 loss to Worcester, giving him 52 saves on 55 shots on the weekend (0.945 SV%)

3)      Alexandre Bolduc extended his team lead in goals to 8 with a goal against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and a goal against Hershey. He is tied for 2nd in the league in goals, and 7th in total points.

THIS COMING WEEK

Wednesday, November 14th vs. Worcester (Lewiston)

The Pirates return to the Androscoggin Bank Colisée in Lewiston to face the Sharks for the second time there, and the second time in a week. Faceoff is at 7:00 PM. The Pirates are undefeated at the Colisée this season and have sold out both prior games.

Friday, November 16th at Connecticut

The Pirates travel to Connecticut to face the Whale on Friday for the first of 8 meetings between the two. Pirates goaltender Chad Johnson will be returning to the XL Center for the first time as a Pirate after spending 2 seasons as the Whale’s goaltender.

Saturday, November 17th vs. Providence

The Pirates face the P-Bruins for the first time this season as they return to the Civic Center in Portland. Puck drops at 7:00 PM for Military Appreciation Night, presented by Martin’s Point, as the Pirates will be honoring our troops and veterans throughout the night.
