Pirates Face Sharks in Road Trip Opener
Portland, ME – After a light couple of weeks, the Pirates are headed out on the road, with their first stop at the DCU Center Friday night, when they face the Worcester Sharks for the second time this season. Game time is 7:30 pm in Worcester.

The Pirates are coming off their Portland opener, a sellout, shutout victory over the St. John’s IceCaps 3-0. Chad Johnson had his second shutout of the season for the Pirates, stopping all 27 shots he faced. Since he yielded 8 goals to the IceCaps in St. John’s on October 23rd, Johnson has stopped 96 of the 98 shots he has faced, chalking up 3 wins and two shutouts along the way. Portland’s scoring in their Friday victory was provided by Chris Brown, Brett Hextall, and Brendan Shinnimin, who had 3 points total on the night. Defenseman Michael Stone chipped in 2 assists for the Pirates in the victory.
The Sharks, meanwhile, are coming off a thrilling 1-0 shootout victory over the Manchester Monarchs last Sunday. John McCarthy had the game winning goal in the shootout, and Alex Stalock turned aside all 27 shots he faced in regulation and overtime for the shutout. Worcester now stands at 4-4-1-1 on the season after a very rough start.
This is the second meeting between the two teams, as the Pirates opened their home season in Lewiston with a 7-4 victory over the Sharks. These two will clash in Lewiston again on November 14th, and will play a total of 8 times this season.
