Goaltender Chad Johnson stopped all 31 shots he faced for his second shutout of the year, as the Pirates defeated the IceCaps 3-0 in their Portland opener. Johnson’s shutout was the second he’s had in consecutive games against the St. John’s IceCaps. The Pirates offense was supplied by Chris Brown, Brett Hextall, and Brendan Shinnimin, who chipped in 3 points on the night. Defenseman Michael Stone also had two assists as the Pirates played before a sellout crowd at the Cumberland County Civic Center.

SALTY PETE’S PIRATES OF THE WEEK

1)      Chad Johnson had his second shutout of the year, the 8th of his AHL career, on Friday, with the Pirates beating the IceCaps 3-0. He made 31 saves for the victory. In his last three games, Johnson has had 2 shutouts and allowed only 2 goals total. His record is now 3-3-0 on the year.

2)      Brendan Shinnimin scored a goal and had 2 assists. The goal was Shinnimin’s second of the year, and the 3 point night brought him up to 4 points on the year.

3)      Michael Stone had two assists on Friday nights, bringing his point total on the season to 6 (1G, 5A). He has tallied a point in his last three games (1G, 3A), and has a +8 rating on the year

THIS COMING WEEK

Friday, November 9th at Worcester

The Pirates start a 3 game, 3 day road trip at the DCU Center in Worcester, MA when they take on the Sharks. This will be the second meeting between the two, as the Pirates beat the Sharks 4-2 in their home opener in Lewiston on October 19th. Puck drops at 7:30 pm.

Saturday, November 10th at Wilkes-Barre/Scranton

The second game of the Pirates’ three game road trip has them clashing with the Penguins for the first time this year. Game time is 7:05 pm from the Mohegan Sun Arena. 

Sunday, November 11th at Hershey

Former Bears Forward Joel Rechlicz will make his return to Hershey as a member of the Pirates as Portland will play their first game at the Giant Center. Puck will drop at 5:00 pm for the Sunday matinee and the final game of the Portland road trip.
