Pirates return to Lewiston, Face Senators for SOLD OUT 6th Annual Pink in the Rink
Portland, ME – The Portland Pirates return to the Androscoggin Bank Colisée Saturday night, facing off against the Binghamton Senators in the 6th Annual Pink in the Rink game, presented by Maine Medical Center Cancer Institute. Puck drops at 7 PM for Portland’s second of 6 home games in Lewiston, and the only home visit from the Senators this season.
Portland returns home after a 2 game Canadian road trip, earning three out of a possible 4 points against the St. John’s IceCaps. In Tuesday night’s contest, Rob Klinkhammer powered the Pirate’s offense, scoring a hat trick and tallying two assists for Portland, but the Pirates were unable to get past the IceCaps, falling 8-7 in overtime. In Wednesday’s contest, however, goaltender Chad Johnson rebounded from his tough outing the night before to stop all 27 shots he faced, and the Pirates defeated the IceCaps 4-0. Alexandre Bolduc scored twice for Portland, continuing his 4 game goal scoring streak to provide the offense. The Pirates currently sit third in the Atlantic Division, just a point back of both the IceCaps and the Manchester Monarchs, but have the highest scoring offence in the AHL with 26 goals, 3 goals ahead of the 2nd place Rochester Americans.
Binghamton is coming off a pair of overtime games last weekend, with a loss to the Syracuse Crunch last Saturday and a 2-1 win over the Hershey Bears last Sunday afternoon. Hugh Jessiman scored the overtime winner for the Senators, who are third in the East division with seven points. Binghamton’s Robin Lehner, who is 6th all-time in appearances in Senators’ history, is currently ranked 4th in the AHL with a 1.32 Goals Against Average and a .954 save percentage.
Saturday night’s contest is the 6th annual Pink in the Rink, presented by Maine Medical Center Cancer Institute. The Pirates will be wearing special pink jerseys to help raise money for Making Strides Against Breast Cancer! The game can be heard on 95.5 and 95.9 WPEI in the Portland area, 92.7FM and 100.7 FM WOXO FM in the Lewiston/Auburn area, and online on the WLOB radio player and AHL Live.
